TAMPA - The 106th Florida State Fair is looking for superheroes - but they have to be the type one would find at a fair.
If you would like to be Fried Food Man, Super Tilt-a-Whirl Girl or Best in Show Goat Boy, head to the open casting call Thursday and Friday at the fairground, U.S. 301 at Interstate 4.
The auditions will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Sweetbay Entertainment Hall. Registration will begin at 11 a.m., with auditions starting at noon.
Parking will be free, and visitors should use the U.S. 301 entrance gate. Those who cannot appear in person can upload an audition video at www. itssuperfair.com no later than 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Several superheroes will be recruited to help promote this year's theme: Super Fair, Super Fun, Super Value. The cast of superheroes will be known as The League of Fair-ness.
Fair officials say the live auditions are modeled on "American Idol." The superhero categories under consideration include fair food characters, fair animal characters and fair game or ride characters.
The contest is open to Florida residents ages 18 or older. For fair information, go to www.florida statefair.com or call 1-800-345-3247 or (813) 621-7821.
