BIZ BITSFAO Schwarz redux
Ahead of the holidays, Toys R Us is opening 585 FAO Schwarz boutiques in some of its stores and relaunching the iconic toy store's Web site.
The announcement gives the first clear indication of Toys R Us' plan for the brand.
Verizon profit falls
Verizon Communications Inc. reported a 30 percent drop in third-quarter earnings Monday, saying it couldn't sign up enough new subscribers to offset higher costs from laying off workers and absorbing an acquisition.
Verizon earned $1.18 billion, or 41 cents a share, in the third quarter, compared with $1.67 billion, or 59 cents a share, a year ago. Excluding one-time items, Verizon says it earned 60 cents a share.
Revenue rose 10 percent to $27.3 billion.
Plant rejects offer
UAW members who work at a plant near Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday overwhelmingly voted against proposed contract changes with Ford.
UAW Local 249 voted 92 percent against the changes, said Jeff Wright, president of the unit.
