Saddlebrook boys advance in 1A-3
WESLEY CHAPEL - It usually stings losing by a stroke.
That's what happened to Saddlebrook Prep when it hosted the Class 1A-Region 3 boys tournament on its Palmer Course on Monday.
It was edged out by Crystal River, which carded a team 323 to the Spartans' 324. The Pirates still will advance to state along with Trinity Catholic (306).
"I'm disappointed," Saddlebrook coach Mark Hirschey said. "And I hope they (the golfers) are, too. They're kids and they'll bounce back, but that's a tough one."
Ocala St. John's Teddy Lausier shot a tournament-best 2-under 69 and three golfers finished with a 77 as the top individual score from Pasco County: Bishop McLaughlin's Kentaro Toyota and Saddlebrook's Alex Bensahel and Seokil Kim.
The Hurricanes finished fourth with a 334, Wesley Chapel came in seventh (340), Pasco was eighth (356) and Academy at the Lakes rounded out the nine-team field with a 426. Other county scorers included the Wildcats' Jacob Fleck and Brandon Mumaw; both shot a 79.
