TAMPA - Friday is the deadline to register for a workshop next week on legal issues for employers arising from the swine flu pandemic.
The workshop will be Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Park Station, 5851 Park Blvd., Room 101, in Pinellas Park.
It is sponsored by the non-profit information and referral agency 2-1-1 Tampa Bay Cares, which serves Pinellas, Hernando and Citrus counties.
The presenter is Tampa labor and employment law attorney Grant R. Petersen.
The workshop will address policies and procedures, compliance with patient privacy laws, identification of potential risks, workplace responsibilities, and strategies for "social distancing."
Other topics to be covered include:
&bull Absenteeism: What to do with employees who are not eligible or have no accrued sick time available?
&bull How much information do I need to share with my other employees?
&bull Can I require my employees to get a flu shot?
&bull Contract employees who will insist on working because they need the pay
&bull Accommodating needs of employees who are caregivers of those with the flu.
&bull Liability issues associated with tele-working
&bull Wording of policies regarding swine flu.
The cost of the workshop is $20.
