Police ID pedestrian killed on Gulf to Bay Blvd. in Clearwater

CLEARWATER - A pedestrian who died Wednesday evening when he was struck crossing Gulf to Bay Boulevard has been identified.
George Ferkowicz, 71, no known address, was killed at 8:23 p.m. in the 2900 block of Gulf to Bay.
He was struck by a minivan driven by 51-year-old David Culp of Palm Harbor, police said. Ferkowicz walked into the path of Culp's vehicle as he attempted to cross the road, police said.
Culp swerved to avoid hitting the pedestrian but was unable to avoid him, police said. Ferkowicz was not crossing at a crosswalk or intersection, police said.
