Not so funny

It used to be unprofessional to carry the water of the government, but now we see our First Amendment caretakers in print and television standing in line to unashamedly volunteer to do so.

What would the response of these same institutions have been if our last president had put out an order (suggestion) to push a certain message?

The zombie-like following of pushing this message would be comical if it wasn't so frightening.

Thank you, Grant

A young man became my guardian in the Tampa airport when, by mistake, I was stranded all alone at the far end without help.

Grant, from North Tampa, found me a wheelchair and took me all the way through the shuttle to the baggage claim area where I met my son.

Thank him for me.

What's wrong with the Bucs?

For one, we have a novice coach with no experience struggling to guide a very young team. Whose idea was that? We miss you, Tony Dungy!

Second, we have an owner whose emphasis is putting bucks (not the Bucs) into the Manchester United soccer team. Maybe the Glazers should sell the Bucs to someone who is committed to bringing us back to a respectable status.

College oversight

Supporters of the University of Central Florida, Florida International University and Florida State University argued that a shortage of primary care providers justifies more medical schools, but 17 schools in Florida are pumping out nurse practitioners and physician's assistants.

Florida colleges need more oversight.

Funding off track?

What your editorial about Charlotte's light-rail line omitted ("Rail rival turns teacher," Our Opinion, Oct. 25) is that fares and taxes do not cover its operating or capital budgets, but that it relies on federal and state grants. If these end, the system is in huge trouble.

We are asking for the same with our light-rail line. Is there a light-rail system in the entire country that pays it own way? No.

What are we doing to ourselves?
