Suspect in home invasion

ST. PETERSBURG - Shortly after he burst into a woman's home and robbed her at gunpoint, taking a laptop computer, a man tried selling the piece of electronics equipment to someone in her neighborhood, St. Petersburg police say.

But the would-be buyer grew suspicious and took a picture of the man, police say. Now investigators hope that by releasing the buyer's photograph they might get a tip as to who he is.

The home invasion occurred about 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the 2500 block of 28th Street North, police say. The suspect forced his way into the home, pulled a handgun and demanded money, police say. After the victim said she didn't have any, the suspect kicked in the door of a bedroom, stole a laptop and ran off, they say.

When he later tried selling the laptop to the neighbor, the neighbor took a photograph of him, police say.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call the police department's robbery unit at (727) 893-7179 or the police communication center at (727) 893-7780.
