TAMPA - Friday is the deadline to register for a workshop next week on swine flu legal issues affecting employers.
It's set for 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Park Station, 5851 Park Blvd., Room 101, Pinellas Park.
It is sponsored by the nonprofit information and referral agency 2-1-1 Tampa Bay Cares, which serves Pinellas, Hernando and Citrus counties.
Tampa labor and employment lawyer Grant R. Petersen will present the workshop, which will address policies and procedures, compliance with patient privacy laws, identification of potential risks, workplace responsibilities, and strategies for "social distancing."
Other topics include:
•What can be done for employees who are not eligible for or have no accrued sick time?
•How much information should be shared with employees?
•Can I require employees to get a flu shot?
•What about contract employees who will insist on working because they need the pay?
•What can be done for employees who are caregivers of people with flu?
•What about liability issues associated with teleworking?
•How about wording of swine flu policies?
Workshop fee is $20.
