RIVERVIEW - Sierra Lauck has been a member of the Riverview High swimming team for three years.
It's kind of a family thing.
"My sister, Morgan, was a senior on the team when I joined as a freshman," Lauck said.
Now it's Lauck who has taken on a leadership role within the team.
"She's just very determined to excel," said swim coach Nancy MacLauchlan. "She's the hardest worker at practice out of anyone on the team.
"She definitely wants to break some records."
Lauck, who specializes in the butterfly and freestyle, wants to leave her mark at Riverview this season.
Besides shattering school records, her main goal coming into this season was to qualify for regionals.
"I swam a lot over the summer and I think it's helped me a lot," Lauck said. "I've gotten my times down in the butterfly, which is my favorite, and the freestyle."
To qualify for regionals, Lauck must first get past the District 4, Class 3A meet, which begins Friday at the New Tampa YMCA.
"I don't see any reason for why she couldn't qualify for regionals," MacLauchlan said.
Though Lauck is undecided about which college she wants to attend, she hopes to study marine biology.
"This is Florida, so I'm guessing there are a lot of schools with good marine biology programs," Lauck said. "I guess I just want to stay near the water."
