CB Jenkins to miss Saturday's game

Published: October 29, 2009

GAINESVILLE Florida CB Moses Jenkins will miss Saturday's game against Georgia after undergoing a procedure aimed to aide in his recovery from the concussion he suffered against Kentucky on Sept. 26.

"He had a little procedure done. Same thing Louis Murphy had last year when he had headaches for quite a while," UF coach Urban Meyer said. "I don't want to tell you something that I'm not 100 percent sure what it was, but he should be fine."

Jenkins was injured on a special teams play against the Wildcats, but unlike QB Tim Tebow, he has not returned to the field since being diagnosed with a concussion.

Meyer said he expects Jenkins to return to the field this season.

Nixon getting look at tackle
Meyer said 300-pound freshman Xavier Nixon could see time at left tackle this weekend against the Bulldogs.

Offensive coordinator and line coach Steve Addazio said he's tinkering with different combinations on the offensive line, but one is moving current LT Carl Johnson back to guard. Johnson played on the interior alongside Mike and Maurkice Pouncey all of last year and helped make Florida the SEC's best offense a year ago.

If Johnson moves back inside, Nixon would likely get the call at tackle

Meyer also said freshman Sam Robey might see time at center this week.

Kicking battle
The pressure's on K Caleb Sturgis after missing a kick of less than 40 yards in back to back games. He also missed an extra point against Mississippi State.

Meyer said earlier this week that he had reopened the kicking battle between Sturgis and senior John Phillips.

"They both kicked really well today," Meyer said. "I'm not sure what I'm going to do Saturday."

Trattou to play

Meyer said DE Justin Trattou will play Saturday after missing last week's game against Mississippi Sate with a ruptured biceps tendon.

"(Trattou is) one of the toughest guys I've ever been around," Meyer said

Meyer said the injury is painful but not structural.

"It's an injury that you can fight through," Meyer said.

Injuries
CB Wondy Pierre-Louis will not play against Georgia because of a hamstring injury. Meyer said RB Jeff Demps (neck) and LB Brandon Spikes (groin) are both ready to go against the Bulldogs.
