Let's move on
I am over this useless loss of life that we are seeing daily in two very unnecessary wars.
I am a Vietnam (another unnecessary war in which thousands of Americans died for no reason) veteran, and I strongly believe that we need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and bring our troops home from both of those places, as well as dramatically reduce our armed forces in Europe and Asia. Right now!
Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan is worth one more American life.
Let's move on!

Special teachers
Thank you, Tribune, for your insightful article about juvenile inmates getting a second chance ("Education is last hope behind bars," page 4, Oct. 25).
The real story, however, is not about these kids but about teachers like Sylvia Albritton.
I was privileged to be a teacher at Tampa Bay Tech when Sylvia was principal.
Her desire was always to go back into the classroom. Imagine that - a principal wanting to go back into the classroom. The kids are lucky to have her dedication and devotion.

Banning beer sales
At a workshop last week, Tampa City Councilman John Dingfelder, a candidate for the Hillsborough County Commission, stated he wants to ban beer sales at the Gasparilla parade.
It's interesting to note that Dingfelder has consistently voted against water restrictions so that the million-dollar houses along Bayshore Boulevard can have lush green lawns.
And now he wants to ban beer sales at the Gasparilla parade so the poor don't get out of hand and go to the bathroom on those lush green lawns.
On a more serious note, the profits from the sales of beer at the parade go to support Tampa Bay nonprofits - nonprofits that help the poor, disadvantaged and the youth of the area.
Maybe Dingfelder's campaign motto should be "Let them eat cake."
