In the girls event, Sickles took the top two places. Alex Valder won the 2A-8 title, followed by Bre Davis. The Academy of the Holy Names' Kathleen Sheridan was third, and Academy's Hannah Everson-Sagi was fourth. All four girls advance to next week's regional.
Golf
Riverview senior Ian McConnell was named a Rolex Junior All-American honorable mention selection by the American Junior Golf Association.
McConnell was one of 48 junior players from the U.S. selected to the team that consisted of 12 first-team members, 12 second-team members and 24 honorable mention players.
The AJGA selected players who distinguished themselves in 82 national events. McConnell ranked 36th in the Polo Golf Rankings used to determine the awards, and had a third-place finish at the Verizon Junior Heritage, a tie for ninth at the FootJoy Invitational and a tie for 11th at The Junior PLAYERS Championship in the 2009 season.
"This was one of my goals this year and it's a good feeling," he said. "The AJGA is the biggest junior golf tour in the country, so to be one of their All-Americans is a really big honor."
