TAMPA - Four female Durant High students were affected by a chemical irritant sprayed by a student at a pep rally this afternoon, Hillsborough County deputies say.
None was seriously injured. Sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon said investigators believe the students were sprayed by Mace or a similar substance.
Hillsborough County school district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said one student said the substance might have been baby powder.
Investigators are trying to determine if the chemical was sprayed intentionally, McKinnon said.
