Frequency of oil level checks:
11% of women knew to check their oil level when they fuel up
26% of men knew to check their oil level when they fuel up

Knowledge of premium gas:
28% of women wrongly believed premium gas makes vehicles run better
28% of men wrongly believed premium gas makes vehicles run better

Ability to find the serpentine belt:
33% of women could identify the serpentine belt
77% of men could identify the serpentine belt

Ability to find the engine air filter:
63% of women could point out the engine air filter
90% of men could point out the engine air filter

Ability to find the windshield fluid reservoir:
89% of women could point out the windshield washer fluid reservoir
95% of men could point out the windshield washer fluid reservoir

Ability to find the transmission fluid dipstick:
75% of women could point out the transmission fluid dipstick
97% of men could point out the transmission fluid dipstick

Ability to find the engine oil dipstick:
91% of women can identify their engine oil dipstick
95% of men can identify their engine oil dipstick

Ability to find the car battery:
97% of women can identify their car battery

About this survey:

This survey presents the findings of two telephone surveys conducted among a national probability sample of 2,003 adults comprising 1,001 men and 1,002 women 18 years of age and older, living in private households in the continental United States between May 7 and May 11, 2009.
