TAMPA - Armwood validated its state ranking in dominant fashion in shutting out Gaither on its home field.

The Hawks scored on two 59-yard touchdown passes on their first two drives of the game, with QB Josh Grady connecting with Deandre Fulton and Richard Jules.

Gaither could not generate an offensive attack, even with the help of many Hawks defensive penalties.

Turnovers and special teams mistakes plagued the Cowboys all night, usually leaving the Hawks' offense with good field position.

With a little more than 2:30 left before the half, a booming Hawks punt put the Cowboys deep in their own territory.

On the first play of its drive, Gaither fumbled, and Armwood recovered on the 3-yard line. The Hawks capitalized on the next play when Grady connected with Vaughn Cross in the end zone.

To start the second half, Gaither had consecutive interceptions on the first play of its first two drives. One was turned into an 11-yard Fulton score, his third of the night.

Gaither's next outing found the Cowboys deep in their territory in a punting situation, and a high snap was recovered in the end zone by Armwood's Eric Striker.

Armwood's scoring streak didn't end there. On the ensuing drive, Paul John Roundtree intercepted a Gaither pass and returned it 85 yards for a score.
