SEFFNER - Bayshore Christian went into the season with an "expect a miracle" theme and they earned that miracle by beating Bradenton Christian 25-21, 25-14, 23-25, 21-25, 15-13 in the Class 1A-District 8 championship at Seffner Christian.
The Faith Warriors moved into a new district this season and faced the team that eliminated them in the regional final last season. Madison Schmitt was outstanding in the first two games for Bayshore, having eight attacks in the first game and numerous blocks in the second. She was aided by Valencia King, who had powerful attacks throughout the night.
Bradenton Christian came back in the third and fourth games, led by Chynna Ratner, who had six attacks in the third and seven in the fourth.
The fifth game was tight the whole way, as they battled to a tie at 12. Bayshore Christian then forced Bradenton Christian to make errors down the stretch for the title.
The Panthers were led by Maria DeKuiper, who had numerous dinks early on, and Abi Van Ostenbridge, who had numerous kills.
In the first game, Bradenton Christian raced out to a 21-16 lead only to have Bayshore Christian come back, scoring nine of the final 10 points.
