HUDSON - When Hudson's girls soccer team opens its season Wednesday against Mitchell, the Cobras will have to do it without their starting goalkeeper.
After Hudson's four-game victory against Ridgewood in the Class 4A-District 7 volleyball championship, Jessie Imbimbo will still be spiking a ball over the net instead of keeping a ball out of the net.
And the senior hopes her soccer season is delayed until mid-November - after the state volleyball tournament.
"It hasn't even hit me yet that we won back-to-back district titles," Imbimbo said of the Cobras' 25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13 victory that gives Hudson six district championships in the last seven years. "This year, we expect to go a lot farther in volleyball than we did last year (region final) and my soccer team knows that."
Hudson (24-3) had little trouble with the Rams in the first two games but once again the Cobras faltered in third game. That game went back-and-forth as the score was tied eight times until Ridgewood (19-8) scored the last three points - all by Lauren Vanker, who served out the game. Vanker led the Rams with 12 kills and 11 blocks.
Imbimbo finished the night with 15 kills.
