ZEPHYRHILLS - As volleyball players from Nature Coast passed around the program's first district trophy since 2007, Coach Dan Murphy made it clear the celebration shouldn't stop with a Class 4A-District 8 title.
"It's very satisfying, however it would be more satisfying to win our next game because we have never gone past the first round the last five years," Murphy said. "... We will go past that first round. We want to go to Lakeland."
The Sharks (20-8) earned a first-round home game by beating host Zephyrhills, 25-14, 25-12, 25-23.
Nature Coast will host Ridgewood on Wednesday night at 7, while Zephyrhills (19-5) will travel to Hudson that same night.
The first two games went practically uncontested. So much so, Murphy admitted he and his players were surprised how easy the wins came. But Game 3 was a much different story.
That game was tied 10 times and featured five lead changes. Courtney Liddle's left-side kill gave Nature Coast a 21-20 advantage. Two aces by Liddle increased that lead, 23-20.
Alex Livengood ended the night when she took a Rachel Powell set and tipped it to an open spot.
