BRANDON - For the third time this season, Brandon fell hard to Plant in an emotional volleyball match.
This time it was for the Class 6A-District 8 title, and Plant came away with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-10 victory.
"We hung right there with them in the first two games and then, well, I think we got tight," Brandon coach Amy Watson said. "We just didn't play well in that third game. We gave them way too many points."
The match was one of the tougher ones Plant (24-1) had this season, when it didn't lose to an in-state opponent. The Panthers' only loss came in a national tournament.
"It was good to have a tough test against a team like Brandon," Plant coach Leanna Taylor said. "We knew coming in that Brandon (19-6) would be emotional and give us everything they had. I told my team they just had to keep playing their game and stay focused because that emotion (for Brandon) would be a tough thing to maintain."
Plant attacked from all over the court, threw up a stout block and was able to dig just about everything. Alex Johnson led the Panthers with 14 kills, Leah Jordan had 13 kills and Maddie Martin added 11 kills and 12 digs.
