LARGO - For the second consecutive year, the Tampa Prep girls volleyball team will enter regional tournament play as district champions. For the second consecutive year, they did it in dominating fashion.
Using a pair of devastating runs to end the final two sets, the Terrapins once again made quick work of host Indian Rocks Christian, winning the Class 2A-District 10 title in straight sets 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.
Last season Tampa Prep also won the district title in straight sets.
"The girls had a mind-set, 'We're winning this,'" Tampa Prep coach Mike Flynn said. "We had some people step up and make big plays. We've been doing that in spurts, but gradually we've been getting that more often from our leaders."
Katie Krueger led Tampa Prep (13-10) with 10 kills, while Ericka McGriff added nine. Nikki Cardoso finished with 10 digs and Caroline Dillabough chipped in with 23 assists
After easily winning the first set, Tampa Prep used a 15-4 run to win the second set before erasing a quick 4-0 deficit in the final set for the victory.
With the win, Tampa Prep will play host in a regional quarterfinal match Wednesday. Indian Rocks Christian will be on the road .
