REDINGTON BEACH - A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputy noticed a fire at a restaurant early this morning and assisted in evacuating guests from the adjacent motel.
The deputy, Dennis Garvey, noticed the fire about 1:48 a.m. at the Parmigiano Ristorante Italiano, 17001 Gulf Blvd.
Garvey and Cpl. Brant Bickford evacuated about 30 guests from the Malibu Resort Motel while firefighters from the Pinellas Suncoast, Madeira Beach and Seminole fire departments extinguished the blaze.
The building was extensively damaged. The fire does not appear to be suspicious, according to the sheriff's office, but the investigation continues.
