GIBSONTON - After a tight beginning that saw both teams trade scores, East Bay pulled away in the second half behind a strong running game and big plays from quarterback Aaron Mills as the Indians won decisively against Wharton.
Mills had a night to remember as the Indians senior led all East Bay rushers with six carries for 128 yards, including two 1-yard touchdowns runs, and the one pass that he did throw was completed for a 40-yard touchdown reception to receiver Lamarque Caldwell.
"Our offense is designed where we have to take what the defense gives us," Indians coach Brian Thornton said. "And if the defense takes the fullback and gives us the quarterback , then we got to be able to do that.
"Aaron hasn't had a lot of yards this year, but he did a nice job when they gave it to us."
East Bay (5-4) gained the upper hand for good when Mills tore off a 52-yard run to set up his own score, giving the Indians a 13-10 lead. They would then score 21 unanswered points after the break.
Wharton (2-6) was led offensively by running back Shane McEwen, who had 100 rushing yards on 20 carries.
