HUDSON - Bottled up and benched on offense after his first six carries, Tarpon Springs junior Darius Daniels had to make some adjustments to get a second chance, and he made the most of it.

Daniels finished with 143 of Tarpon Springs' 349 rushing yards, including touchdown runs of 52, 58 and 16 yards as the Spongers (7-2, 4-0 Class 4A-District 6) clinched the district title against Hudson (4-4, 2-1) at Cobra Stadium.

"I had to put it out of my head," Daniels said. "They were stuffing the holes ... and we adapted and overcame like champions do."

With his team down 6-3 in the second quarter, Daniels' first touch after re-entering the game changed everything. The 52-yard touchdown burst up the middle with 1:20 to play until halftime gave the Spongers the lead for good.

Tarpon Springs terrorized the Tampa Bay area's leading passer, Zack Wynn, who threw for a season-low 117 yards. The low point was after halftime, when Hudson drove 67 yards on 12 plays to the Spongers 13, before Wynn, trying to get rid of the ball, was pressured and intercepted by Kostas Valvas to stall the drive. Daniels scored his second TD three plays later.
