TAMPA - Gulf Marine Repair Corp. intends to rehire more than 100 employees to handle an increase in ship repair projects and will create 50 jobs to expand a dry dock at Port of Tampa, officials said Monday.
That raises the amount of federal stimulus money awarded shipyards at the Tampa port to more than $10 million to create jobs, U.S. Rep Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, said.
The shipyard had 308 employees in July 2008 and 140 by July.
Things are looking up, with new contracts in the next two fiscal quarters, Gulf Marine Vice President Rick Watts said.
