TAMPA - A wanted man was struck by a U.S. marshal's vehicle as he fled from authorities this afternoon.
The Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force was trying to apprehend Edward Kuhlmann, who was wanted for fleeing and eluding police, in the 4400 block of Hillsborough Ave.
When officers made contact with Kuhlmann at around 2 p.m., he ran to the Checkers parking lot, 4459 W. Hillsborough Ave.
A U.S. marshal's car drove into the parking lot and entered the drive-through. Kuhlmann suddenly moved in front of the car, and the agent swerved trying to not hit the suspect, Tampa police said.
The car hit Kuhlmann's leg and pinned it against the building, police said.
Kuhlmann was taken to Tampa General Hospital for leg injuries. He is in stable condition, police said. Tampa police is investigating the incident, the marshal's office said.
Kuhlmann, of Tampa, is a suspect in numerous burglaries in Hillsborough County. His criminal history includes fleeing and eluding law enforcement with violence and felon with a concealed weapon, the marshal's office said.
