PALM HARBOR - Probably, to the raccoon, it seemed like a good idea at the time: Tasty peanut butter at the bottom of a jar. There was one problem, however: It was just out of reach.
But then, disaster struck. The raccoon couldn't get the peanut butter jar off its too-big-for-the-jar head.
The call of an animal in need of help came in at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday from someone who spotted the critter struggling in the parking lot of Brooker Creek Elementary School, 3130 Forelock Road in Palm Harbor.
A Pinellas County sheriff's deputy arrived and saw the fumbling creature. The deputy approached the animal with caution, reached down and pulled the jar free. The raccoon fled on foot; the jar was left behind.
"All are well," said a news release from the agency.
