JACKSONVILLE - A Jacksonville baby sitter faces life in prison after being convicted of murdering a 2-year-old child by beating her with a flyswatter.
A jury deliberated for five hours before finding 41-year-old baby sitter Syna Lim guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the 2006 death of Amara Ou of St. Augustine. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty and the only other possible sentence is life without parole.
Circuit Judge Mallory Cooper set sentencing for Oct. 12.
Assistant State Attorney Dan Skinner says the state and family are pleased with the verdict. He says Lim should be held accountable for her actions.
Defense attorneys had argued that someone else had caused the baby's injuries.
