SARASOTA - Outback Steakhouse debuted a new look for its restaurant Thursday night during a media dinner at its South Tamiami Trail location. The 6,300-square-foot restaurant, which was built in 1989 as the third in the Outback chain, was demolished in May and rebuilt in less than four months with a new interior design and layout that better supports curbside customers.
The updated design, which features more seating in the bar and additional tables for outdoor dining, stays with the rugged Australian motif but features a more refined collection of aboriginal-themed art and musical instruments. Restaurant officials said the design could become a template for future Outback locations and renovations. In 2009, Outback performed 20 renovations.
The Sarasota restaurant reopens to diners at 4 p.m. Monday.
