BERKELEY PREP...25 ST. PETE CATH. ...24
ST. PETERSBURG - Berkeley Prep narrowly held off St. Petersburg Catholic after the Barons scored 18 unanswered points in a wild fourth quarter.
Two critical gaffes by the Barons - a missed extra point that would have tied the game and their fumble on the Buccaneers' 10-yard line with four seconds remaining - allowed Berkeley Prep to get the win..
"Wins are hard. We controlled the first half and we had a chance to put them away early but didn't," Buccaneers coach Dominick Ciao said.
Berkeley appeared to have the game sewn up by halftime on two TD passes from Destin Nichols to Christian Hardegree and a 62-yard TD run from Nelson Agholor. The Bucs missed three conversion attempts. Agholor tacked on a late second-quarter TD to give Berkeley a 25-6 lead.
After the Barons scored in the fourth (4-yard run by Mitch Slater), things unraveled for Berkeley. Two fumbles led to the Barons' comeback, including Keelyan Bryant's 63-yard return for a TD.
As the Barons were driving for a possible winning TD, the Bucs' James Lewis made a game-saving fumble recovery.
