GIBSONTON - For a few seconds, East Bay linebacker Cody Smoot stood motionless above a fumbled ball. After linebacker Keionne Baines' crushing hit on Plant City receiver Lamarlin Wiggins forced a fumble on the 2-yard line late in the fourth quarter, Smoot recovered himself and scooped up the ball. That fumble recovery stopped a 13-play rallying drive for the Raiders.
"For a second I thought I heard a whistle," Smoot said. "Then everyone was yelling 'Go, go, go.'"
In the first half, the Indians scored on a 1-yard keeper by quarterback Aaron Miles for the game's first touchdown. The Raiders answered early in the second quarter on a 2-yard scoring run by Bennie Coney. The Indians took the lead again on a 4-yard scoring scamper by Deandre Reddick, set up by fullback Josh Hudson, who finished with 90 rushing yards.
Coney was the Raiders' first-half sparkplug, completing all his passes in the half, going 9-for-9 for 94 yards while rushing and passing for a touchdown.
The second half didn't yield much offensively for either team with the deciding score coming in favor of East Bay on a 33-yard field goal by Forrest Meredith in the third quarter.
