A man in Palmetto accidently shot himself in the hand Saturday night while investigating noises outside his home, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
According to a report, Luis Rivera, 35, was in the living room of his house watching a movie with his family about 9 p.m. when his dog started barking and he heard noises outside.
He grabbed a flashlight and pistol, leashed up the dog and headed outside, the report said.
He was juggling the dog leash, pistol and flashlight when he accidently discharged the pistol with his left hand, shooting his right hand, deputies said.
His wife drove the family to Manatee Memorial Hospital, the report said. Rivera's injuries are not life-threatening.
