I sat down to pay my monthly bills and separated out 14 statements from Medicare, Florida Blue Cross and Tricare. Fourteen! The postage cost to the companies was $4.86. Each individual trip to a doctor was accorded a separate statement as was each drug cost.
This was about an average month's mailing to me. Why on earth should this be?
Multiply $4.86 times all their customers and the amount would be staggering. That of course does not count the labor involved in the mailing or the cost of paper and envelopes. I suspect we are talking about millions of dollars spent by such companies every month.
Why not one letter each month from each provider? It would save millions of dollars and be more efficient.
