Off-duty officer hurt in nightclub fight

NORTH PORT - Hillsborough County authorities are looking for a man who beat up an off-duty North Port officer outside of a Tampa nightclub early Friday.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Officer Michael Shinsky, 23, was standing outside the Dallas Bull, a large country music bar on U.S. Highway 301, at about 3 a.m. Friday when a man in a blue four-door Volkswagen pulled up, and said, "You trashed my car." The man then exited the car and attacked Shinsky.

Shinsky, reportedly fell during the attack and the man got on top of him, pummeling Shinsky's head. He was admitted to a Tampa-area hospital after the attack. North Port Police did not know the extent of Shinsky's injuries but said he was not returning to work on Tuesday.

Hillsborough officials said Shinsky did not know his attacker and did not have any contact with him before the fight.
