ARLINGTON, Texas - Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton received a second shot for the pinched nerve in his back and is not expected to return until at least the weekend.
Hamilton is in Texas, where he had another injection Monday while Texas opened a three-game series in Cleveland. Hamilton will wait for the Rangers to come home for the start of a nine-game homestand Friday.
Hamilton hasn't played since pulling himself out of a game Wednesday. He had a shot Thursday, then went to Baltimore on Saturday before returning home the next day because he was still hurting.
In other Rangers news:
•Third baseman Michael Young, who is batting .322 with 22 homers and 67 RBIs, missed his fifth straight game Monday with a strained left hamstring. When he will return is unknown.
•Outfielder Andruw Jones, who has been on the disabled list since Aug. 25 with a strained left hamstring, will be activated today.
BLUE JAYS: Second baseman Aaron Hill left Monday's game against the Twins after three innings upon learning that his wife, Elizabeth, had gone into labor with the couple's first child. Hill returned to the couple's home in Palm Harbor.
DIAMONDBACKS: Scott Schoeneweis returned to the team after spending four weeks on the disabled list because of depression following his wife's death. His wife, Gabrielle, was found dead in the master bedroom of the couple's home May 20.
DODGERS: Pitcher Clayton Kershaw will miss his Friday start after bruising his right shoulder when he ran into the outfield wall Sunday in Arizona during batting practice.
PHILLIES: Rookie pitcher J.A. Happ was unable to start Monday because of a strained a side muscle and was replaced on the mound by Jamie Moyer. Happ (10-4, 2.77 ERA) said he expects to make his next start this weekend.
