TAMPA - A second challenger has announced for embattled Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin White's District 3 seat.
Valerie Goddard, 44, chairwoman of The Children's Board of Hillsborough County, said Tuesday she will run for the District 3 seat as a Democrat. Former state Sen. Les Miller, also a Democrat, has already announced he will seek the seat in the 2010 election.
Goddard is a self-employed consultant on early care and education issues. She formerly served as executive director of a United Way agency for 12 years and also was deputy director of child development for the U.S. Department of Defense, according to her news release.
Goddard is a graduate of Whittier College with a bachelor's degree in political science and social work.
White, a first-term commissioner, has endured an avalanche of bad publicity after an unfavorable verdict in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by his former aide.
The lawsuit did not stop the 44-year-old commissioner from officially qualifying as a candidate. Miller and Goddard have not qualified.
