DADE CITY - The city's official Web site was disabled Tuesday because city employees forgot to renew the domain name for the home page.
Anyone who tried to go to www.dadecityfl.com got an error message saying the domain name expired Aug. 31. Some city commissioners and members of the public were not able to view their agendas for Tuesday's commission meeting online.
The employee who usually renewed the domain was laid off a year ago, City Manager Billy Poe said.
"We overlooked it," he said. "It has nothing to do with the budget. It only costs about $40. It just slipped through the cracks."
The site was running Friday but appears to have been taken down during the holiday weekend. City employees found the problem Tuesday morning. It may have affected the city's e-mail system as well because city e-mails run through the same server.
The city contacted the Web host, Network Solutions, and got a 15-day extension to renew the domain name, Poe said.
The site was expected to be back online late Tuesday.
