TAMPA - Though tickets can still be purchased for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' season opener against Dallas on Sunday, the game will not be blacked out on local TV, team officials said Thursday.
"The game will not be blacked out,'' Bucs spokesman Jeff Kamis said shortly after the 1 p.m. deadline for reaching a sellout passed. "I am confident of that.''
The Bucs have not had a home game blacked out since they began playing home games at Raymond James Stadium in 1998. The stadium holds 65,980 for football games.
NFL games must be sold out 72 hours in advance to lift the local TV blackout. If the deadline is not reached but is near a sellout, the NFL often grants a 24-hour extension.
The game will be shown regionally by Fox. The local affiliate is WTVT, Channel 13.
