DADE CITY - The city's Price Park could be getting a $195,000 makeover courtesy of the state of Florida.
The city has applied for the Department of Environmental Protection grant and commissioners amended the capital improvement plan this week to include significant upgrades to the park, including new restrooms and the city's first dog park.
City Attorney Karla Owens spent months working on the proposal, and the city's engineering department designed the new facilities. The grant also should pay for new picnic shelters, new picnic tables and benches, and extending the Hardy Trail to the park.
The grant, which specifically targets rural communities, requires no matching money from the city, so it's extremely competitive.
"They seem to be focused on multi-modal transportation this year, so we've emphasized the trail extension," Owens said.
The dog park, which would comprise a shady corner of the park, is an added bonus.
