TAMPA - The victims of the Sept. 11 attacks were remembered today at a ceremony that included a moment of silence, prayers and an honor guard.
Mary Ellen Harlan, chairwoman of the Patriots Day of Remembrance, said the nation's losses were great in the terrorists attack.
"On 9/11, men, women and children lost their lives and even the shortest life has an impact on all of us," she told a crowd of about 120 people.
Those gathered at Veterans Memorial Park and Museum on U.S. 301 included servicemen and women, police officers and members of veterans groups. Harlan recalled the sacrifices of public safety workers eight years ago.
"Police, firefighters and guardsmen and women died on that tragic day and it is our honor to remember them at ceremonies like this all over the nation," Harlan said.
The Newsome High School Junior ROTC program provided an honor guard at the 45-minute ceremony.
