ZEPHYRHILLS - City Manager Steve Spina will ask the City Council to consider relaxing the ordinance that governs Sunday sales of alcohol.
Zephyrhills allows businesses and restaurants to sell alcohol on Sundays, starting at 1 p.m. Outside the city limits, though, people can buy alcohol two hours earlier.
"It puts our businesses at a disadvantage," Spina said.
A local convenience store owner asked Spina to bring up the issue before council members. The amended ordinance is scheduled for a first reading Monday.
If the council approves the ordinance, it would be scheduled for a public hearing before the second, and final, vote.
Pasco County has allowed Sunday sales beginning at 11 a.m. since 2004. Dade City enacted a similar ordinance in 2007.
