This peninsula we call Florida has always attracted explorers and exploiters. Some came looking for adventure and beauty, but many came looking for riches.
Her bounty of water, wildlife and woodlands has long been taken for granted and taken for profit. She is but a shadow of her former self after suffering years of plunder and pollution. But she is still magnificent, and if enough of us band together to protect what remains, she will repay us tenfold with her sparkling waters, gorgeous sunsets and the diversity of her life contained within.
I am forever grateful to all who have labored to protect and preserve our state's native flora, fauna and outstanding natural landscapes.
Let us continue this labor of love by protecting Florida's splendid coastal waters and shoreline from the pressure to drill for oil - a shortsighted plan to industrialize and lay waste to our precious peninsula, our beloved Florida.
