TAMPA - A 22-year-old man stole a car, crashed it after police chased him, then carjacked someone before wrecking that vehicle as well, police say.
Walter Lee Miller faces charges including carjacking, obstructing or opposing an officer without violence, and fleeing and attempting to elude police.
On Monday morning, officers saw a 1995 Mercury Marquis parked at a convenience store on 48th Street, its engine running. Miller approached the car, looked around suspiciously and drove off, an arrest report states. Believing Miller had stolen the car, police tried to stop him, but he sped up and eventually crashed into a utility pole.
He then carjacked someone in a Ford Escort, got on Interstate 4 and crashed into a Ford truck on the Interstate 275 on-ramp, the report states. Miller ran across northbound I-275, where officers used a stun gun and arrested him.
Miller remains in Orient Road Jail with bail set at $30,250.
