TAMPA - "Serena!" squealed Lola Marion as she trotted to the table in the rear of the Borders bookstore. "You are gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous!" Such was the sentiment of much of the crowd that greeted Serena Williams at her book-signing Thursday at Borders, 909 N. Dale Mabry Highway. The signing lasted about 30 minutes for the group of nearly 200 people.
Williams would have been a large draw anyway, but the signing came less than a week after her profanity-packed outburst aimed at a line judge cost Williams a point - in this case, match point - in her semifinal loss at the U.S. Open tennis tournament. The crowd at the book-signing was in a mood to forgive, though. "If John McEnroe did that it wouldn't have been a big deal," Marion said.
