NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco high school students who wear their seat belts could get a chill during their safe ride Monday.
Pasco deputies will be giving away coupons for free 7-Eleven Slurpees for student drivers and passengers who are complying with the state's seat belt law.
Only schools with Pasco County Sheriff's Office student resource officers will be part of "Operation Chill," said sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll.
The operation's goal is to remind students of the importance of wearing seat belts and that the law recently changed requiring everyone to wear them, Doll said. No citations will be issued for students not wearing seat belts, but future operations will cite unbuckled students.
Most of the coupons will be given out during the afternoon when students leave campus, but Gulf High is plans to give some out in the morning.
