BRANDON...21 PLANT CITY...12
BRANDON - After a slow start in a first half was marred by multiple penalties, Brandon captured its first official win of the season on Thursday night 21-12 over Plant City.
The Eagles offense came alive in the first half, led by a dominating performance by top receiver Sean Watson. The senior not only caught the first touchdown pass of the night for Brandon, a 6-yard grab from quarterback Alan Knipple to put the Eagles in front 7-6 with 9:32 left in the third quarter, but also intercepted a pass on defense, kicked three extra points and kicked a 65-yard punt late in the fourth quarter to bottle up the Raiders on their own five yard line. Watson also finished the night with three catches for 66 yards.
Knipple also had a solid performance in his debut as quarterback for the Eagles, completing six out 11 passes for 137 yards and no picks.
Plant City took the lead early in the first quarter on a two yard run by running back Dazmond Patterson, who finished the night with 24 carries for 100 yards rushing and two scores.
The Brandon defense stiffened up in the second half, recovering three lost fumbles, intercepting a pass, and sacking Raiders quarterback Bennie Coney three times.
