JESUIT...24 DURANT...0
TAMPA - Jesuit's defense struck early and often in the first half, forcing three fumbles as the Tigers went on to defeat Durant on Thursday night.
The first forced fumble occurred on the third play of the game. Jordan Perhosky recovered the ball for the Tigers at Durant's 31-yard line. A few plays later, Bobby Eveld found Ben Gutowski for a 20-yard touchdown pass.
Durant fumbled the snap in the second quarter and Perhosky recovered that one, too.
Jesuit responded with a 12-play, 75-yard drive that concluded with Eveld rolling out to his right before finding Gutowski again, this time for a 15-yard score. For the game, Gutowski caught seven passes for 127 yards and one TD. Gutowski came up with another huge catch in the third quarter by leaping for a 32-yard gain with his quarterback throwing out of his own end zone.
The lone offense for the Cougars came courtesy of John Hicks who carried the ball 10 times for 121 yards.
After a fumbled snap on a Cougars punt attempt, Jesuit scored again when Eveld, facing third-and-goal, hit Travis Johnson for a 4-yard TD.
Eveld completed 21 of 32 passes for 294 yards with 3 TDs and an interception.
