The Men's Wearhouse is helping unemployed men look good while they search for a job.
Through the end of September, all Men's Wearhouse and Men's Wearhouse & Tux locations will be collecting gently used suits, dress shirts, sport coats, slacks, ties, belts and shoes.
Locally donated items will be taken to the Corporation to Develop Communities, a nonprofit organization that helps low-income residents secure employment and gain financial stability. That organization will distribute them to men who need them for job interviews.
Men's Wearhouse will add a new tie to every suit donated. It's part of a national effort to help jobless men get back on their feet.
"There's not a lot of support out there for men," says Cynthia Stewart, director of corporate giving at Men's Wearhouse. "There's a lot of help for women. Men need help, too. And if they don't look the part, they're not going to get the job and be able to provide for their families."
Last year's first suit drive resulted in 125,000 donations over a two-month period, and this year the company hopes to increase that to 150,000, Stewart says. The suits don't have to be pressed, they just need to be clean and in good shape. The donations are tax deductible, and donors will get a receipt for tax purposes, as well as a 10 percent-off coupon. Drop off donations at the Men's Wearhouse during their normal business hours.
