I believe we should exhaust every resource we have to discover and develop new sources of energy, including nuclear, solar, wind and so on. The problem is we are decades from any suitable replacement for oil.
Fuel for our vehicles is only a small percentage of what we recover from crude oil. We get cosmetics, medicines, food, plastics, clothing, and the list goes on and on.
I don't think there are very many people who would give up their air conditioners, TVs, video games, carpets or cars. I don't know of anyone who is willing to live like the family on "Little House on the Prairie." In fact, I don't know very many people who could survive very long living like that.
So, until we can become oil free, we need to drill here and drill now to break our dependency on foreign oil.
