TAMPA - The final score - Tampa Catholic 17, Trinity Catholic 7 - was indicative of how close the teams were and could be a prelude of a Class 2B playoff game to come.
The difference between the TC's on Friday was five Trinity Catholic turnovers: four interceptions and a fumble on Tampa Catholic's goal line.
Tampa Catholic (2-0) did not commit a turnover and ran its run-based offense with high efficiency.
Tampa Catholic running back Henry McCloud led the way with 15 carries for 105 yards, and Crusaders quarterback Christian Green added 11 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns of 32 and 15 yards.
"We felt if we took care of the ball, and didn't let them get the big play, that we would be in pretty good shape," Crusaders coach Bob Henriquez said. "I'd say things went pretty well. We did a lot of things well tonight."
In the first half, Tampa Catholic held Trinity to 88 total yards and collected three of its interceptions by McCloud, Chris Lundy and Jeremi Wilkes. The Crusaders gained just 126 yards of their own in the first half, but held a 10-0 lead on Green's 32-yard TD run and a 41-yard field by Mike Paleveda.
