Pedestrian killed in Pinellas

CLEARWATER - A Tampa driver struck and killed 38-year-old Alberto Carlos Hernandez as he crossed State Road 686, west of 59th Street North, at 10:55 p.m. yesterday, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver, Kathleen Caruthers, 49, was driving her 2006 Lexus eastbound on State Road 686, when she hit Hernandez, who was headed south across the highway and had stepped off a concrete median into her path, the report said.
Caruthers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol was not a factor in the case, the report said. Charges are pending, according to the highway patrol.
